If you are trying to solve today's puzzle and want to check words already used in Wordle, you've come to the right place!
I have been keeping a log of all Wordle words so far. Recently, a user suggested I make a compact past Wordle words list organized from A to Z, without any distracting dates or puzzle numbers. So, I present to you the ultimate alphabetical list of past Wordle words. I do my best to update this Wordle used word list daily so you always know exactly which words are off the board!
You can also follow my Bluesky account in which I exclusively share my daily Wordle results.
Perhaps you are looking for an alphabetical list that includes today's Wordle.
There's also a chronological list that includes today's Wordle.
And of course a chronological list that excludes today's Wordle.
And last but not least, a list with every repeated Wordle word so far.
February 22 2026 Update: I decided to bold the repeated words.
Which Wordle is the real one?
There is only one official place to play Wordle, and you can find it on only on The New York Times Wordle page.
That depends on your timezone. You can find the current US one if you check my chronological list that includes today's Wordle.
Wordle: Which Word to start with?
You want to start with a word that will have many common vowels and consonants, such as E, A, R, O, T, L, I etc.
Crucially, you also want to start with a word that isn't on the list of used Wordle words. For example, words like ‘ARISE’ or ‘SOARE’ have three vowels and two consonants that are often found in five-letter words. These words, regardless of the outcome (green, yellow, or grey), provide excellent clues for your next move. You can find a list with the most frequent Wordle letters if you scroll to the bottom.
Which dictionary does Wordle use?
Wordle does not use a standard dictionary. The creator of Wordle, Josh Wardle, first programmed the game to use all 13,000 possible five-letter words in the English language. However, he found that his partner Palak Shah had difficulty recognizing some of the less common ones. She went through all the words and selected only the ones she recognized, trimming the Wordle word list down to 2,309 words – roughly five years of puzzles.
Will Wordle run out of words?
No. Wordle isn’t going to run out of words.
Eventually, the original list of 2,309 valid words would have run out on January 23, 2028. However, Wordle isn’t going to end. The New York Times is now allowing previously used Wordle words to repeat, so the game can keep going indefinitely.
Will Wordle always be free?
There is no simple answer to this. Wordle is currently owned by The New York Times, so it is entirely up to them whether they keep Wordle free, or put it behind a paywall.
Who invented Wordle?
Worlde was created by Josh Wardle, and was published online on January 2021.
Who picks Wordle words?
At first words were picked by a predetermined word list that contained 2039 5-letter words. Shortly after The New York Times acquired Wordle, a dedicated editor, Tracy Bennett, was tasked to pick the daily word.
What was the first Wordle word?
The very first Wordle word ever used was CIGAR, which debuted when the game launched, 19 June 2021.
Has "SLATE" been a Wordle word?
Yes, SLATE is among the words that have been used in Wordle. It was the solution to puzzle #548.
Can Wordle words be plural?
So far there has been no plural wordle word, so it is safe to assume that a Wordle can't be plural. You can check my list of all wordle words already used to confirm this yourself!
Can Wordle be past tense?
So far there have been Wordle solutions in the past tense, like for example THREW and SWUNG so Wordle can be past tense. You can check my list of all wordle words already used to confirm this yourself!
Can Wordle have double letters?
Wordle can have double letters, and it has done so multiple times in the past.
Can Wordle be a name of a person?
This is a bit tricky. There has been in fact one name as Wordle word so far: HOMER.
Can Wordle be a proper noun?
A Wordle can be a proper noun, and it has done so in the past e.g. Wordle #752 on July 11th 2023 was EARTH. You can check my list of all wordle words already used to confirm this yourself!
Can Wordle repeat words?
Yes, Wordle can now repeat words! For a long time, the whole point was that no Wordle previous words were ever repeated. However, The New York Times announced that starting February 2nd, 2026, they are reintroducing past Wordle words back into the rotation. New words will still appear, but past solutions can show up again.
toughest I've found so far is PARER
ReplyDeleteWow! Did you start Wordle that early?! Paper was the 35th word if I am not mistaken.
DeleteI started at #306 OXIDE. PARER was #454
ReplyDeleteOh, my bad. I read paPer for some reason. As I can see on the logs I keep, I lost my streak with PARER. I personally started with #265. WATCH back on 11 March 2022!
DeleteMany lost parer...up til then I read the longest streak was 1165. I'm at 149 now and starting to invent words and feeling the pressure 🤣
DeleteI like finding twins like RANGE & ANGER, GREEN & GENRE. There is also triplets; EARTH, HATER & HEART.
ReplyDeleteInteresting! I had never thought of it that way!
DeleteRAISE & ARISE
DeleteGreat idea!!
ReplyDeleteHi, I noticed there are past tense words like THREW and SWUNG for example.
ReplyDeleteIndeed! Thanks for noticing! I will correct the post!
DeleteHow do you know how many possible words there are and when Wordle will end?
ReplyDeleteHello there! According to this article in The New York Times https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/07/upshot/wordle-bot-introduction.html "Every Wordle game starts with one of 2,309 possible solutions as the hidden word. "
DeleteI just found this article, which I share for your enjoyment: https://www.techradar.com/computing/websites-apps/wordle-will-eventually-run-out-of-words-here-s-what-the-nyt-could-do-next
DeleteAlso, thank you for your lists. I hate to guess words that have already been used, so you have helped make the game more fun for me!
DeleteYou are always welcome! Let me know if you have any suggestions about the lists!
DeleteThere is a simple solution for WORDLE to be continued forever: do away with the good-for-nothing rule that solutions cannot be repeated. Let a randomizer pick the new word each day.
DeletePerhaps this will be the case in the future...
DeleteAgain, I think you gave your 3rd try as a solution in #1313. I got it with a different woird on try 4.
ReplyDeletePlease check your records. I think MOLDY was used on 7/1/25.
ReplyDeleteThat is correct. MOLDY is already on my list.
DeleteNot the end of the world, but CIGAR was either used twice or you had it on the list prior to it being used. CIGAR was on the 2/2/26 list as already being used but it was the word for 2/2/26. I guess you are human.
ReplyDeleteHello there! The New York Times announced that starting February 2nd 2026, it would reintroduce previously used answers into the rotation. CIGAR was the first Wordle, and it was also the first to be repeated.
DeleteTODAY'S WORD (FEB 17 2026) SHOWS AS HAVING BEEN USED BEFORE
ReplyDeleteCorrect. It was used 11 April 2022.
DeleteI have kept a list of dance-related words used in Wordle… These have all been used: Dance
ReplyDeleteRumba Polka Waltz Salsa Mambo Bongo Banjo
Haha nice! You might need to add SWING as well!
DeleteToday, 2/21/26 also shows as having been used before. This is at least the 3rd time this month, so the usefulness of this site and the other one which also shows today's word as having been used before, makes the sites of limited use.
ReplyDeleteCorrect. I have created this list also which shows the repeated words. https://www.stadafa.com/2022/09/every-repeated-wordle-word-so-far.html
DeleteThis compact alphabetical list excluding today's worlde has been showing the current word. I noticed it first with 'latch'. After three tries, I had the last four letters in green, but the subject list showed every possibility as already used. Almost cost me the game. Would have gotten it in four if 'latch' was correctly shown as not previously used
ReplyDeleteI deeply apologize about this.
DeleteI have been trying to automate this a bit, so that I only post it in one list, and have it automatically displayed on all the lists that I keep on my site. The thought is that the lists will be more consistent and will be less prone to errors.
I believe I have corrected this now, so words only up to the previous day will be shown here.
There is always the possibility of a repeated word though. Currently I display the repeated with *bold*.
Let me know if you need anything else! Again I am really sorry I nearly ruined it for you!
