Pubic hair preferences

Pubic hair preferences by gender and age group

This week we take a look at genders' preferences on pubic hair.

Pubic hair, or the hair found in the genital area, has been the topic of discussion for centuries. There has even been evidence of pubic hair removal in ancient India over 6000 years ago, while in the Middle Ages, British prostitutes removed their pubes in order to combat pubic lice.

And although women's pubic hair has been talked over for so long, men's approach to grooming their nether regions has only been a recent phenomenon.

And as such, we can clearly see a trend. Both men and women in the 16-24 age group, tend to be fond of men's pubic hair to be completely absent but at a lower rate than those who have a soft spot on women's pubic hair thoroughly removed.

If we progress to the next age group, the 25 to 39 one, the image for women shifts, and those who like better their men natural are more than those who want them "bald". And that's just the beginning of this trend, as women in the 40-59 age group, are more than 3 times more likely to be attracted to natural vs removed for their male partners, while in the 60+ age group, 1 in 2 women favour the former, and just 1 in 25 the later.

Comparing men and women's preferences on women's natural pubic hair, we can see that on each age group the percentages are nearly even and they only grow as the ages pass.

That is not also the case for women's all hair removed. Men are much more likely to like fully removed pubic hair on women, than women are, and that only intensifies as we advance age groups. From 58% men and 47% women in the 16-24 age group thinking preferable of this grooming practice, we go to 37% men and only 8% women doing so in those over 60

The preferences percentages are calculated by summing those who responded "strongly like" and "tend to like" on the question "To what extent do you like, or dislike, the following styles of women's/men's pubic hair?" on the YouGov - Body Image big survey 2021

I have also recorded a timelapse video of the process I followed to create this graph. You can watch it here.
